Insurance Research – Quotes and Feature Comparison

The Quotes tab returns live quotes for each quote you set up on the Details tab. You can compare premiums, feature scores and value scores side by side. From here you can compare product features in detail and download reports. You can also mark the products you want to recommend or present as alternatives.

Get Quotes

  1. On the Details tab, click Get Quotes.

  2. A progress message shows while quotes are retrieved (for example, Quoting 0 of 4).

  3. When quoting is complete, the Quotes tab opens with the results.

Read the Quote Results

Quote Details panel (left)

  • Select the Life Insured to see their quotes. If a life insured has no quotes, No quotes for this life insured is shown.

  • Each quote shows its covers, sum insured, structure and premium frequency, and the date it was generated.

  • Tick a quote to show its results.

  • Click the edit icon to change the quote, or click Requote to refresh its premiums.

The client's existing policy is shown at the bottom of the table with an Existing tag, so you can compare it with the new quotes.

Tip: Use Search by product or insurer, or the filter icon on each column heading, to narrow the results.

View product information

  • Click a product row to open the Additional Information panel on the right, with links to the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD).

Note: A quote that hasn't been run yet shows Not yet quoted. Click Requote to retrieve its results.

View excluded products

  1. Click Excluded Products below the results. The number in brackets shows how many products were excluded.

  2. Each excluded product shows a short reason (for example, No product could meet your TPD extension need), with links to its PDS and TMD.

  3. Click Reasons beside a product to open Exclusion Reasons. This lists each product option and why each cover couldn't be quoted (for example, an age limit, a maximum sum insured, or ownership the product doesn't support).

Mark Recommendations and Alternatives

  • Click Rec beside a product to add it as a recommendation.

  • Click Alt beside a product to add it as an alternative.

The selected button turns green and the product is ticked. These products appear on the Recommendations tab. See Plan Authoring: Insurance Research – Recommendations.

Tip: Select the Life Insured at the top of the Quote Details panel to switch between the client's and partner's quotes.

Compare Product Features

  1. Tick the products you want to compare.

  2. Click View / Compare Features.

  3. The Feature comparison shows each product side by side, grouped by cover (for example, LIFE and TPD). Each feature shows its weighting, score, commentary, strengths and limitations.

  4. Use Search features... or the filter icon to find a specific feature.

  5. Click Save to Scenario to keep the comparison with the scenario, or Download report to create a PDF report.

Note: Reports generate in the background. A message lets you know when the report is ready in the Document Vault.

Supplier Documents

  1. Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) at the top right of the scenario and select Documents.

  2. Current Supplier Documents opens, with four tabs:

    • Documents – PDS, insurance guides and fact sheets for each supplier

    • Archived Documents – earlier versions of supplier documents

    • Adviser Guides – insurer adviser guides

    • Target Market Determinations – the TMD for each product

  3. Each document shows its Supplier, Date Issued and Description. Click Open to view the PDF.

Tip: Use Search at the top of the window to find a supplier quickly.

Note: Feature comparison reports and product PDS/TMDs for the scenario are kept in the Document Vault. Open it from the scenario's ⋮ menu with Scenario reports, or from the plan with View Reports. See Plan Authoring: Insurance Research – View and Include Research in the Plan.

Document Vault (Scenario Reports)

The Document Vault keeps the reports and product documents for the scenario. It saves a copy of each product's PDS and TMD, so the versions you researched stay with the scenario and can be used in the plan.

  1. Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) at the top right of the scenario and select Scenario reports.

  2. Select the tab for the life insured (for example, Patricia Pumpkin or Peter Pumpkin).

  3. Saved Reports lists each saved report with its Report Type and Report Name (for example, Patricia - Feature Comparison 22-10-2026 15.21.54.pdf).

  4. Product Documents (PDS / TMD) lists the PDS and TMD for each recommended and alternative product, with the Insurer, Product, Document and Type.

  5. Click ⋮ beside a report or document to view or download it.

  6. Click Close.

Note: A feature comparison report appears under Saved Reports once you click Download report in the Feature comparison and it finishes generating.

Scenario Settings

Scenario Settings control how quotes are run for this scenario. When you create a scenario, it takes a copy of your workspace defaults. You can then change them for this scenario only.

  1. Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) at the top right of the scenario and select Scenario settings.

  2. Review each page in the left-hand menu (see the table below).

  3. Click Save.

Page

What you can set

Campaigns

Life, TPD Extension, Trauma Extension, TPD Standalone, Trauma Standalone, TPD Extension to Trauma, Income Protection, Business Expenses, Needle Stick

The default options used when you add that need in the Needs Editor

Tip: If your workspace defaults have changed since the scenario was created, click Reset to Workspace default to load the current workspace settings.

Note: Feature and value scores are shown as percentages. Click Requote on the Quotes tab after changing settings, so the results reflect them.

Other Scenario Options

The same ⋮ menu also includes:

  • Provider list – shows which insurers and super funds are included in quoting, grouped by category (for example, Retail Super and Industry Super). Untick a provider to exclude it, or click Reset to default to restore the list. Click Save.

  • Rename – rename the scenario.

  • Scenario reports – opens the Document Vault for the scenario (see below).

  • Scenario settings – quoting defaults for this scenario (see below).

Note: A Licensee tag on the Provider List shows the list has been set by your licensee.

Who can change the product list

Your licensee decides who can define the approved product list. A licensee administrator sets this in Licensee > Preferences:

Preference

When set to Yes

Allow User Defined Product List

Individual users can set their own product list

Allow Workspace Defined Product List

A workspace can set its own product list

Allow Adviser Defined Product List

Advisers can set their own product list

Allow Scenarios to override Defined Product List

The Provider list and Approved Product List can be changed within a scenario

Click Save Changes after updating the preferences.

Note: If the licensee hasn't allowed scenarios to override the defined product list, you may not be able to change the Provider list in a scenario. Contact your licensee administrator if you need a provider added or removed.

How the default list is chosen: a new scenario loads the most specific product list your licensee allows. For example, if advisers can define their own list, the adviser's list becomes the scenario's default Approved Product List. The licensee can also stop quotes being run on products outside the approved list. See Workspace: Insurance Research Settings.
