Risk Researcher Scenarios Failing for Super-Owned Insurance: Missing Premium Frequency

Why insurance held inside a super fund needs to be linked to a stand-alone Insurance Policy before Risk Researcher can use it correctly

When the Linked Insurance Policy Group field on the Super Plan's Insurance tab is left at ----- (unlinked), Risk Researcher has a premium amount but no frequency to apply it against. As a result, it cannot confidently treat the cover as fully considered, and surfaces it as Not Considered or Review with an incomplete plan name.

The Insurance Premium field on the Super Plan is a single dollar figure only. It does not capture how often that premium is charged. Risk Researcher needs premium frequency to model existing cover accurately, calculate premium estimates, and compare against replacement or top-up recommendations — and that field only exists on the stand-alone Insurance Policy record.

Prevention / Best Practice

  • When entering insurance held inside a super fund for a new client, create the stand-alone Insurance Policy record first, then link it from the Super Plan — rather than entering a premium directly on the fund

  • During annual reviews, check the Linked Insurance Policy Group field on every super-owned cover before running Risk Researcher, particularly for funds imported or migrated from another system

  • Treat Not Considered or Review statuses with an (unknown) plan name in Risk Researcher as a prompt to check for a missing link, not just a missing recommendation decision

How to Confirm This Is the Issue

  1. Open the client's Super Plan in question.

  2. Go to the Insurance tab under Existing Plans > Details.

  3. Check the Linked Insurance Policy Group field.

  • If it shows -----, the cover is not linked to a stand-alone policy — this is the cause.

  • If it shows a policy name, the cover is linked, and this article does not apply. Check the underlying Insurance Policy record for a missing or incorrect premium frequency instead

Resolution

To resolve this, create (or link to) a stand-alone Insurance Policy record and connect it to the Super Plan:

  • Go to Client > Risk Tools (or the relevant Insurance section) and create a new Insurance Policy record for the cover held inside the fund, if one doesn't already exist

  • Enter the insurer, product name, cover types, cover amounts, and — critically — the correct premium frequency

  • Return to Existing Plans > Details > Insurance on the Super Plan

  • Set Linked Insurance Policy Group to the matching policy

  • Save
